He is a translator and poet, best known for his translations and adaptations from ancient texts including Gilgamesh (2004), Bhagavad Gita (2000), and Tao Te Ching (1988). He is the author of one book of original poetry, Parables and Portraits (1990), and has coauthored two books with his wife, Byron Katie: Loving What Is (2003) and A Thousand Names For Joy (2008).
