E-mail message from Edmund Yates, assistant to the executive director, International Commission on English in the Liturgy, Washington, DC, Mar. 13, 2012 (This organization has used both Commission and Committee since its inception in 1963. The International Commission on English in the Liturgy was established in October 1963 as an unincorporated association of bishops designated by sponsoring conferences of bishops. In 1967 the Commission was incorporated in Canada as a nonprofit body for religious, charitable, and educational purposes under the title International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Incorporated. This corporation, which holds title to all ICEL literary properties, was established to insure the protection of the liturgical and literary integrity of ICEL translations, texts, and other materials. ICEL (the Committee) and ICEL (the Commission) are both entities or agencies of the 11 founding member conferences. Eventually the Committee (incorporated as a charity) will be dissolved and replaced by the Commission (incorporated Sept. 2010 as a not-for-profit corporation))
