• Information found: (Kimambo, Isaria N.; born Isaria Ndelahiyosa Kimambo in 1931 in Tanganyika; sent to Natiro Mission School for his primary education; trained as a schoolteacher at Marangu Teacher's Training College; while working as a teacher he obtained a church scholarship to pursue undergraduate studies at the Pacific Lutheran University in 1959; did graduate studies in African history at Northwestern University; joined the department of history at the University College of Dar es Salaam in 1965; defended his PhD thesis at Northwestern in 1967, published in 1969 as A political history of the Pare of Tanzania, ca 1500-1900; with the establishment of the autonomous University of Dar es Salaam in 1970 after reconstitution of the University of East Africa, Kimambo was appointed the university's first chief academic officer, which he held for 12 years, then returning to the department of history; exit lecture as professor of history delivered in 1992; invited to serve as a member of the UNESCO International Committee for Drafting the General History of Africa from 1971 to 2000, helped oversee 8 volumes and contributed a chapter; festschrift 2005 by colleagues in Tanzanian history)
