Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: pages 11-12 (Gross Alexander, Methodist theologian, born in Scottsville, Ky. on June 1, 1852. Family moved to Louisville when Alexander was 15. Graduated from Louisville's Male High School in 1871, and taught there until 1873. Taught at Warren College in Bowling Green 1873-1875 then enrolled in the Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J. where he graduated with his bachelor of divinity degree June 1877. Became a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1877, then the chaplain and a professor at Vanderbilt University in 1880 until 1902. Returned to Louisville where he served in the Louisville Conference of the Methodist church from 1902-1915. Translated several monographs from Greek and wrote several religious texts. Died on a trip to Los Angeles, September 1, 1915.)
