PPPrHi files (The General Assembly Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. and the General Council of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. merged shortly after 1983 to become the General Assembly Council of the newly formed Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Members were still elected by the General Assembly and fulfilled generally the same functions, but the GAC was given greater decision-making powers than either of its predecessor bodies. The GAC's name changed to the General Assembly Mission Council (GAMC) in 2008. Note that a body called the General Assembly Mission Board continued to exist in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) until 1987).
Minutes of the 218th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), 2008 : p. 617 (218th General Assembly approved recommendation to change the name of the General Assembly Council to the General Assembly Mission Council)
