Mildred Thompson (1881-1975); promenant historian, educator and feminist; born in Atlanta on November 27, 1881; undergraduate degree from Vassar College (1903); taught at Vassar's history department before becoming the college's dean (1923-1948); retired in 1948; served as a curriculum consultant to the University of Georgia for many years; served as dean of women at the College of Free Rurope in Strasburg, France in the early 1950s; began her historian career by undertaking graduate studies at Columbia University, New York City, earning both her master's degree and a Ph.D.; friend of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt; considered a "celebrity intellectual" and took part in a number of radio programs; an ardent internationalist, served as a drafter of the charter for the initial rendition of what is now known as UNESCO; died on February 17, 1975)
