Born in Tayport, Fife, Scotland on 25 December 1886, died 13 August 1952. Licensed in the Church of Scotland in 1910, he served as minister of West Kilbride before moving to Canada as Professor of Church History and Practical Theology at McGill University, Montreal. In 1933 he returned to Scotland as minister of the High Parish, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, until his appointment in the Presbyterian College, Belfast on 9th June 1942)
